Basilica of Bom Jesus

Perhaps the most popular church in Old Goa is the Jesuit built Basilica of Bom Jesus, the holiest site in South and East Asia.

The Se Cathedral

The construction of the church toook a century to complete as it was built during 1562-1651, during the reign of six kings

St. Cajetan’s Church

In 1639, a new religious order which arrived in Goa was the Theatines, founded by St. Cajetan.

When the Portuguese set sail into the vast emptiness of the oceans in the quest of conquering distant lands, they also had another mission in mind - spreading their religious beliefs. When they captured Goa in 1510, they went about their task with zeal and left a huge legacy.
