    A perfect landscape for herbivorous birds, Carambolim Lake is a man made freshwater lake and is considered to be a bird watchers paradise. It is located at a distance of 12 kms from Panaji. The lush green fields, trees and woodlands add to the scenic beauty of the lake and is a popular destination for bird lovers worldwide.

    Getting there

    Carambolim Lake is walking distance from the Karmali Railway station. Since there is no public transport that goes directly to the Carambolim Lake, it is ideal to rent a taxi or motorbike from Panaji (14 kms).

    • The rich ecology of the lake caters to a number of migratory birds such as Lesser Whistling Teal, Cattle Egret, Pond Heron, Coots, Little Egret and many more. The birds are best sighted from the months of September to February.
    • Apart from being a bird watchers paradise, Carambolim is also known for the centuries old church that was built in 1714. The hamlet also has a chapel and is known to be the third biggest and oldest railway station on the Konkan Railways.
    • The scenic beauty of the lake surrounded by paddy fields and green landscape also attracts a lot of nature photographers as well as visitors who wish to enjoy the peace and tranquility.
