    One of the most popular destinations of Goa, the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife sanctuary along with the Mollem national park forms one of the biggest wildlife protected areas of Goa. It is home to a variety of exotic species of flora and fauna.The area has immense historical and geographical significance and is protected by the Goa Government.

    Getting there

    Dabolim airport is 68 kms away, and one can travel to the sanctuary by road via Margao, Ponda and Tiska. The closest railway station is at Collem (6 kms), although not many trains stop here. The Margao railway station serves as the main station at a distance of 44 kms. You can book a taxi from the station to get to the sanctuary. Most interstate buses travel from Panaji through the Panaji-Ponda-Tiska-Mollem route (57 km) or through Margao from the Margao-Ponda-Tiska-Mollem route (42 km).

    The wildlife sanctuary is home to a wide variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, butterflies that can be observed throughout the year. Some of the animals that can be observed are the leopard cat, mouse deer, barking deer, wild boar, sambhar, bonnet macaque, civet, malabar giant squirrel, slender lorin, panther, jungle cat, etc.The sanctuary authorities have also erected watchtowers to catch a better glimpse of the birds and animals.
    Apart from the wildlife, there are a number of other locations that can be visited at the sanctuary. Some of them include:
    Dudhsagar Falls, Devil’s Canyon, Lord Mahadev’s Temple, Nature Interpretation Centre, Sunset Point, Bhandaras and Mineral water springs, and the Bolcornem nursery.
