    One of the lesser crowded beaches of North Goa; Ashvem is a rocky little beach with scattered coconut trees and is an ideal place for a family picnic. Ashvem beach is also known as a nesting site for the famous Olive Ridley turtles which can be observed during the months of September to February.

    Getting there

    The nearest railway station to Ashvem beach is at Tivim near Mapusa and is 24kms away. Catch a bus or hire a taxi or auto rickshaw to get to Mapusa. From Mapusa, you can board a local bus at the Kadamba bus stand in central Mapusa to get to Ashvem. The Dabolim airport is 60kms from Ashvem, with prepaid taxi service available to get to the beach.

    Quick Facts

    • Ashvem is a laid back and relaxed beach that doesn’t get crowded with tourists even during the peak of the season. Local fishermen offer boating and dolphin spotting rides for visitors and the beach is relatively safe to go swimming between October to May.
    • The rare Olive Ridley turtles can be observed during the nesting season from September to February on the beach. The sighting of the turtles however is based on pure luck.
    • There are a number of shacks and restaurants nestled amongst the palm trees on the beach that provide good food and accommodation. The French restaurant ‘La Plage’ is an up-market restaurant that offers fine dining in European cuisine and is open during season time from October to March.
